The battle of Nanduhirion, part three. Tools used: pencil, graphite pencil and drawing ink.

"... Elsewhere the battle swayed to and fro with great slaughter, until at last the dwarves of the Iron Hills turned the day.

Coming late and fresh to the field the mailed warriors of Náin, Gror's son, drove through the orcs to the very threshold of Moria, crying "Azog! Azog!" as they hewed down with their mattocks all who stood in their way."

Last drawing of the year 2009; I meant this to be just a illustration of Náin and few soldiers to the background, but well, now this is a full battle illustration. I made a few compromises with the background, though.

Fifth illustration to my "war of the dwarves and orcs" - serie.

Thank you! I'm glad that my version satisfies others as well. There aren't too many illustrations regarding dwarven lore so it was nice to try to fill that gap.

Yes, it is bad that the dwarfs are discussed so little. I wish your dwarves would occur in the Hobbit movie! ;)
Will there be more illustrations of the dwarves? Or anything in planning?

I have watched The Hobbit blog, and there was a scene where dwarven soldiers were running around - pretty nice looking scene, although soldiers seemed to wear half-plate armours instead of ringmail (maybe they were Erebor troops from a flashback).

Of course there'll be more drawings, thank you for the interest towards my works. I have a huge pile of sketches, most of them featuring dwarves. Some that I'm planning to draw in near future are related to the battle of five armies - Dáin's troops from Iron Hills, Thorin's assault from the gate and Thorin's farewell to Bilbo, maybe his funeral too. Also some scenes from the Silmarillion, I have barely touched the events in that book.

Oh yeah, right, I remember. I am so excited about Dáin's army in the movie!

I am a really big fan of Tolkien and of dwarfs, at first I thought your drawings by John Howe!^^ Your drawings are exactly my taste!
Oh oooh, that sounds good! I am very pleased to hear that.- You're right, there's still a lot of material.
