Practice for my next drawing project. Dwarven soldiers with spear, halberd and axe, each having a different set of armour. Based on J.R.R.Tolkien's Middle-Earth.

The Battle of Unnumbered Tears

"The Dwarves of Belegost wore fire-resistant iron masks and were naturally able to resist fire better than Elves or Men"

Pencil & ink, with the halberd-dwarf I used graphite pencil for shading. I have seen some artists to use this kind of method, so I wanted to try if it's easier than with drawing ink.

Well, I don't have experience with graphites, so it looks very blurry.

So you ink the lines and shade with a graphite pencil? Might try that as well.
Amazing, how you can come up with these armor sets.

Nowadays I tend to draw some shades afterwards with graphite pencil but not in a manner I made that halberd-wealding dwarf, it wont work too well. Only using drawing ink makes a bit messy look if characters and backround only use same medium.

Heavily inspired by Ian Miller, my favourite Tolkien artist :)

Thank you. This must be the only sketch I have posted here, and frankly speaking, I don't remember the reason . Still it was pretty fun to sketch these armours (something else than ringmail for a change).

You gotta give the elves some art to man.

Meaning, elven infantry? Or elves in general?

Without a doubt, someday I return to scenes of Silmarillion and there are plenty of stories to illustrate.
