"Omethu Ociesaga was a forgotten beast. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic one-eyed shrimp. It has two long, hanging tails and it appears to be emaciated. Its charcoal exoskeleton is warty. Beware its poisonous gas! Omethu was associated with water, caverns and blight.
In a time before time, Omethu began wandering in the depth of the world." -----------------------------------------------------------------------
A random megabeast from the game Dwarf Fortress, quick digital illustration (30-60 min). There're weekly entries for illustrating beasts players encounter in their fortresses in DF forum and I have made a few drawings as well. Those monsters are real nightmare fuel, lurking in the dark caves beneath the earth and eating your citizens whenever they can, possibly bringing death to your entire colony.
Playing with light and shadows by using tablet and illustrating from description alone is a good way to "train" imagination. It's great to see other people's versions as well.
Its really fantastic. Seeing it confuses me into wanted to lay both Dark Souls and Dwarf Fortress at the same time. Or to pick up a Lovecraft book. Excellent use of light.
Thank you very much! Ah, Dark Souls/Demon's Souls... someday I'll draw fan art about those as well, darn excellent games. Great monsters but also dramatic fates.
Imagination is DF player's strongest ally while playing, these monsters aren't just huge letters marching towards poor dorfs. It's great fun to draw/paint beasts like this, even better if it has an epic story from own fotress to accompany it.
Excellent use of light.
