"Ufsmat Maratbitrak was a forgotten beast. It was the only of its kind. A gigantic hairy gecko. It has a long, swinging trunk and it is ravening. Its eye glow chartreuse. Its bronze hair is long and wavy. Beware its deadly dust! Ufsmat was associated with caverns and blight.

In a time before time, Ufsmat began wandering in the depths of the world."

A random megabeast from the game Dwarf Fortress, quick digital illustration (30-60 min). There're weekly entries for illustrating beasts players encounter in their fortresses in DF forum and I have made a few drawings as well. Those monsters are real nightmare fuel, lurking in the dark caves beneath the earth and eating your citizens whenever they can, possibly bringing death to your entire colony.

Playing with light and shadows by using tablet and illustrating from description alone is a good way to "train" imagination. It's great to see other people's versions as well.

That thing. That thing looks rather.. I dunno..

I like how the others don't know what's happening.

Pretty disturbing stuff can be found from DF beast gallery, haha... Nightmare fuel or just plain disturbing. My personal favourite is a pile of vomit with two long antennae which made its way into my fortress.

Indeed. Although, sometime cute, no?

I think I heard the tale of a fluffy beast, somewhere.

Epic approximation of an epic abomination from an epic game.

Thank you! Epic game deserves the best, and also gives food to imagination :D

Wow, that is quite terrifying. It's a great contrast with the small letter that they would look like in-game.

The size of these beasts can't be highlighted enough, that's why it's fantastic to see artist's own versions of these. DF forum's fan art and "the forgotten beast art contest" threads offer plenty of beasty art!
